St. Mary's County Offices

Citizens of St. Mary's County elect most of their county officials during gubernatorial elections. (Three members of the Board of Education are elected during presidential elections.)

MD Governor

Duties The Governor of Maryland is the head of the executive branch of MD government, and he is the commander-in-chief of the state's National Guard units.

Term: 4 years, two term limit

 

State Offices

In Maryland, citizens may vote for candidates for these state offices:

  • Governor and Lt. Governor (Executive Branch)
  • Attorney General (Judicial Branch)
  • Comptroller
  • State Senators and Delegates (Legislative Branch, voted on by district)
  • Appellate Judges (appointed by the Governor, citizens vote to confirm or retain in office)
  • Circuit Court Judges (elected in bipartisan elections by district)
